Fort
Bend Education Foundation Partners with Keep Sugar Land Beautiful
Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) is spearheading the 5th annual
Recycle for Reuse event in partnership with the Fort Bend Education
Foundation, Shared Dreams, the Sugar Land Lions Club and the Fort
Bend County Women’s Center on Saturday, October 11. We will be
collecting gently used items for reuse.
Materials to be collected include books, games, puzzles, flash
cards, videos, boys and girls pants (sizes 6 –16), girls dresses,
eyeglasses, furniture, and household items. Classroom Items will be
donated to Fort Bend ISD teachers, clothing will be donated to Fort
Bend ISD students in need, eyeglasses will be given to the Lions
Recycle for Sight program, and furniture and household items will be
donated to the Fort Bend Women’s Center .
Donors are asked to bring clean, gently used items to Fort Bend ISD
Administration, 16431 Lexington Blvd, Sugar Land between 10:00 am

International Festival

On November 8th at Sugar Land Town
Square; FLUOR CORPORATION will present the Fort Bend Education
Foundation’s 3rd annual Passport to the World – an International
Festival. This year the focus will be on music and fashion from
around the world.
From 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, the festival will celebrate the remarkable
diversity of Fort Bend ISD by presenting booths from 16 countries,
ethnic food, and cultural performances. The highlight of this year’s
Festival is an international fashion show, “Around the World in 40
minutes”, featuring traditional and modern attire from all over the
world. The show will emceed by Melanie Lawson of Channel 13.
Throughout the day the Fort Bend Education Foundation will collect
gently-used band instruments. These instruments will be refurbished
and donated to the 10 area K- 6 schools that are beginning their
band programs this year.
Admission to the festival is free. Elementary age children will want
to be sure to visit the cultural crafts booth and visit each
country’s booth to record their travels in their “Passports”.
The Fort Bend Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that
supports FBISD students, teachers, and campuses by providing grants
to teachers and campuses for value added learning tools and
opportunities. Now in its 16th year, the Foundation has provided
$2.1 million in grants to teachers and schools. For more information

2008-2009 Board

Fort Bend Education recently installed its officers
for the 2008-2009 school year. Pictured left to right back row: Ann

Foundation provides opportunities to enrich and enhance the quality

Angels of Education Auxiliary Luncheon

On September 30th, the Fort Bend Education Foundation’s Angels of Education
auxiliary hosted a luncheon for volunteers. New auxiliary members where
invited to hear about the Foundation’s programs and volunteer opportunities.
Riverstone graciously provided a Darling Homes model home and lunch which
was catered by Affairs with Flair. The Angels of Education Auxiliary
supports the Foundation by providing volunteers and creating community
awareness.

School Scramble

The eighth annual Fort Bend Education Foundation Back to School Scramble
golf tournament was held on August 25, 2008 at Sweetwater Country Club.
Schlumberger and Sweetwater Country club presented the “Back to School
Scramble” chaired by Ron Bailey and Rod Nelson.
Thanks to the generosity of this year’s participants, the event netted more
than $93.000 for the Fort Bend Education Foundation. 268 golfers attended
the tournament, and enjoyed lunch from Chick-fil-A, and an awards banquet at
the end of the day. The tournament low gross champion team consisted of Juan
Diaz, Eric Medford, Don Middleton, Gary Moseley, and John Thomas.
The Foundation provides the equivalent of research and development in public
schools, supporting innovation and creative education throughout FBISD.
Programs include; Grants for Teachers and Schools, Grants for Experts and
Angel Gifts.
Last year the foundation awarded $306,000 through its grants to teachers and
schools programs. Since inception in 1992, the Education Foundation has
awarded over 2.1 million to FBISD teachers and schools.
Angel Gift
Awards
Fort Bend Education Foundation Awards over $30,600 dollars to 204 new
teachers in FBISD beginning their teaching career through its Angel Gifts
Program.
Qualifying teachers were awarded with a gift certificate for $150.00 to
Crystal Children & Teacher supply to purchase items to help set up and
enhance their individual classrooms.
